CBI arrests I-T official for accepting bribe of Rs 5 lakh in Mandsaur

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested an Income Tax Officer(ITO), Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh) for demanding & accepting bribe of Rs 5 lakhs.
A case was registered at CBI’s anti corruption branch (ACB) in Bhopal on complaint against an ITO, Mandsaur following Complainant.
It was alleged by the complainant that his firm is engaged in manufacturing of electric switches in Maharashtra, however, Income Tax Assessment of the said firm was being done at the office of Income Tax at Mandsaur(MP).
It was further alleged that the ITO, Mandsaur demanded a bribe and that if the demanded bribe was not paid, then he would get heavy penalty imposed by the Income Tax Department & IT raid on the firm of the complainant.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused for demanding & accepting bribe of Rs.5,00,000/- from the Complainant. Searches are being conducted at the premises of the accused.
The arrested accused will be produced tomorrow before the Special Judge for CBI Cases at Indore.
Action was led by CBI’s ASP Atul Hajela assisted by DSP Deepak Purohit, and inspectors - Satish Barwal Abhishek Sonekar Vijay Mehra and SI Subhash Tomar.
