CBIC orders immediate de-mapping of retired, transferred officers from GST portal
Oct 4, 2024
Synopsis
The CBIC has directed zonal heads to de-map officers from the GST portal immediately after retirement or transfer to prevent unauthorised access. This decision follows a case where an officer sanctioned a fraudulent refund because they were not de-mapped. Supervisory officers will monitor the de-mapping process and report compliance to jurisdictional commissioners.
The CBIC on Friday issued a directive to zonal heads to immediately de-map officers from the GST portal upon their retirement or transfer. This aims to prevent unauthorised access and potential fraudulent activities. The move was initiated on the reference received from the Directorate General of Vigilance, CBIC, where an official who was relieved from the charge fraudulently sanctioned a refund as he was not de-mapped from the GSTN portal.
The Directorate General of Vigilance recommended immediate de-mapping of officers from the portal upon discharge of duty, and said the process must be monitored by supervisory officers, and compliance reports to jurisdictional commissioners within a specified time.
