No e-way bill sans e-invoice details from March 1
Jan 6, 2024
Synopsis
According to NIC, the move was initiated after many cases surfaced where the invoice details entered separately under e-way bill and e-invoice were not matching with respect to certain parameters.
In an advisory issued late on Friday, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) asked all taxpayers and transporters to make necessary changes inA their system so that they can adapt to the new norm from March 1.
According to NIC, the move was initiated after many cases surfaced where the invoice details entered separately under e-way bill and e-invoice were not matching with respect to certain parameters.
This is leading to mismatch in the e-way bill and e-invoice statements. "To avoid such situations, e-way bill generation will not be allowed without e-invoice details from March 1, 2024," NIC said.
This will be applicable for all businesses with turnover above ₹5 crore for e-invoice enabled tax payers and for the transactions related to supplies under B2B (Business to Business) and exports. However, e-way bills for other transactions, such as B2C (Business to customers) and non-supplies, can be generated as before, NIC said.
E-way bills are mandatory under the goods and services tax regime for inter-state transportation of goods valued at more than ₹50,000. E-Invoice has been operationalised since October 2020.
