Indore, Mar 14, 2024
State goods and services tax (GST) department on Wednesday carried out raids at 28 locations of a pan shop chain in Indore following suspicion of tax evasion and income suppression.
The investigation by the department found the firm evading taxes by concealing sales and purchase details.
The raids were part of the long-time investigation carried by the SGST department on the firm that owns pan shops and restaurants in the city and other districts in Madhya Pradesh.
The investigation team discovered that there were approximately 12 unregistered firms and discrepancies in the sales records.
“The firm has not declared the true turnover and there were mismatches in the sales record. Many outlets of the pan shop chain were found to be not registered with the GST department. The investigation revealed that the firm had been concealing its sales and purchase details in order to avoid paying the required taxes. This is a serious offence and the department will take appropriate action against those found guilty,” said a senior official from the SGST department. As many as 17 teams of the SGST department conducted searches at shops and restaurants of the firm and seized documents from the premises. Investigation by the team is likely to continue for a day or two.
