Rudrapur, Feb 29, 2024
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Yogesh Aggarwal, superintendent of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department, on Tuesday evening for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The arrest follows a complaint by Rudrapur resident Mukesh Kumar accusing Aggarwal of demanding Rs 15,000 to reinstate the suspended GST number of his wife's firm, Signature International Corporation.
Kumar said his business of plastic goods was adversely affected by the GST number suspension. Aggarwal allegedly demanded the bribe on Feb 21, along with specific documents, threatening permanent closure of the GST number if the payment was not made.
CBI SP (Dehradun sector) S K Rathi initiated an investigation based on the complaint, leading to Aggarwal's arrest in Rudrapur during a bribe transaction and a case has been registered against the Superintendent. Authorities are examining his associated properties in the city and also in his hometown of Ambala, Haryana.
